What is cryptography?

Cryptography helps you encoding your data and makes it readable to only intended users.

Cryptography is a method of protecting information and communications through the use of codes so that only those for whom the information is intended can read and process it.

fig. Simple Example of Cryptography

Cryptography is technique or algorithm that converts normal text to cipher text. for example. We use algorithms to encrypt passwords over server. In case if hacker gets access to our database, he still can not be able read passwords.

Cryptography types

fig. Cryptography types

Symmetric key cryptography (Secret key)

In symmetric key cryptography, the same key is used by the sender (for encryption) and the receiver (for decryption). The key is shared.

In symmetric-key cryptography, the same key is used in both directions.
Symmetric-key cryptography is often used for long messages

Asymmetric Key cryptography (Public key)

In asymmetric or public-key cryptography, there are two keys: a private key and a public key. The private key is kept by the receiver. The public key is announced to the public.
